Tonya and Curtis Carroll Service Scholarship
The late Mrs. Tonya Carroll and Dr. Curtis Carroll were both first-generation college graduates and leaders within their community. In 1993, they moved from Flint, Michigan, to Charlotte, North Carolina. Mrs. Carroll served as a pharmacist at several North Carolina pharmacies and owned The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy for five years, providing care to medically underserved patients. Dr. Carroll served for 27 years in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools as a principal and superintendent, where he supported thousands of minority students. He held several of the district’s highest-profile roles, serving populations impacted by high poverty and low test scores.
The Carrolls instilled the values of hard work and service in their children, Dr. Brittany Carroll and Brent Carroll. Their children continue the Carroll legacy in many ways, including supporting students who share those values. The Tonya and Curtis Carroll Service Scholarship honors students who are seeking to cultivate sustainable change through service to others.
